TPM-A - AAHP Special Session - Nuclear Site Decommissioning

North 221ABC   14:30 - 16:30

TPM-A.1   14:30  Use of CZT Gamma Camera for Characterization Measurements during Decommissioning YA Boucher*, H3D Inc.

Abstract: Position-sensitive CZT semiconductor detectors are used to achieve excellent energy resolution and create radiation images of where gamma-ray sources are located in a room. The use of these systems to effectively locate sources during decommissioning projects and prioritize remediation activities will be discussed.

TPM-A.2   15:15  Unique Challenges in Backfilling Land Areas during Nuclear Power Decommissioning S Roberts*, EnergySolutions

Abstract: During the process of nuclear plant decommissioning, it is often necessary to remediate and survey, and backfill land areas and foundations prior to Final Status Survey. The risks and unique regulatory challenges of these processes are discussed.

TPM-A.3   16:00  3D Digital Models to Support Radiological Decommissioning Projects M Darois*, RSCS

Abstract: The ecosystem of software, processing power, and emerging work flows makes it possible to create digital twins of licensee facilities, from the very large scale regional and site scale in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) down to the facility and component scale with Building Information Models (BIM) in a common data environment (CDE). These environments can be linked to geodatabases that contain, license commitment information, maintenance records, radiological conditions/surveys along with material and spatial attributes. The application of these models to gain efficiencies during decommissioning of nuclear facilities will be presented.
